Description

Organic Approach 9-0-4 Fertilizer

Organic Approach 9-0-4 Fertilizer is a premium slow-release organic fertilizer designed for lawns, vegetable gardens, flowers, trees, shrubs, and general planting areas. It is naturally plant derived, non-burning, and a strong choice for homeowners and contractors who want dependable feeding power with a more natural approach to plant and soil health.

This fertilizer is made from a homogenized blend of feather meal, soybean meal, cottonseed meal, alfalfa meal, and vegetative ash. It is also the fertilizer we premix into our Organic Garden Mix, so if you have already recently purchased our Garden Mix, there is usually no need to add more of this product at the same time.

Why Customers Choose Organic Approach 9-0-4

  • Slow-release, non-burning organic fertilizer
  • Plant-derived formula with no animal manures
  • Low-dust, spreadable granular product
  • Good fit for lawns, gardens, flowers, shrubs, and trees
  • Helps support soil biology and long-term plant health
  • Phosphorus-free formula that works well for established lawns

Best Time To Use

  • Lawns: after the first mowing of the season, then repeat through the growing season as needed
  • Vegetable gardens: at planting time, with a second feeding mid-season for heavier feeders if needed
  • Flower beds, shrubs, and ornamental plantings: spring and fall are the main feeding windows

For Connecticut lawns, a practical window is after mid-April and before mid-October. In most cases, one spring feeding and one fall feeding are the core applications, with additional feedings depending on how intensively you want to manage the lawn.

Application Rates

For Lawns

  • Heavier feeding program: 10 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. after the first mowing of the season, then every 2 months through the season
  • Lighter maintenance program: 5 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. every 6 weeks

For Vegetable Gardens

  • At planting: 1 lb per 100 sq. ft. of row area
  • For heavier-feeding crops: apply another 1 lb per 100 sq. ft. in the row at mid-season

For Flowers, Trees, and Shrubs

  • Spring: 1 lb per 100 sq. ft. of bed area
  • Fall: 2 lbs per 100 sq. ft. of bed area

How The Rate Changes By Goal

  • If your goal is lawn color and basic maintenance: use the lighter lawn rate of 5 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. every 6 weeks
  • If your goal is a more aggressive lawn feeding program: use 10 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. after first mowing and every 2 months
  • If your goal is feeding a new vegetable garden: use 1 lb per 100 sq. ft. at planting
  • If your goal is stronger seasonal support for ornamental beds: use the spring and fall bed rates
